World Travels
Honeymoon Travel Adventure
Zambia Feb 19 to 25

We were running out of time in Africa so our brief stop in Zambia was in Livingstone. People are drawn to this area to experience one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls.  Bordering Zimbabwe, the falls were quite a different experience from Iguazu falls (Argentina) since they didn't have nearly as many cataracts and there were not near as many pathways giving you different perspectives of the falls. However at Vic Falls you were able to get into a waterfall rainstorm.  We got drenched from the spray as we walked along the paths.  After a few walks around the top views of the falls, we headed down a trail which led to an area called the "boiling pots".  The trail was an experience in itself as some of the trail was replaced by a small flowing stream and was hard to follow.  The pots were cool though, it is an massive bend in the river near the falls and the water looked as though it was boiling.

There was also a slew of market stalls set up nearby catering to the tourists. It was sad to see how desperate some of the vendors were. They kept asking if there was anything we could trade with them. Several times I got asked if I could trade my simple hair elastic.

The following day we went on a boat cruise on the Zambezi river and met a bunch of tourists including a wack load of Canadians. It was easy spotting hippos and giraffes, enjoying the all you can drink cocktails and watching the sunset over the river. Later that night we made it back to Vic falls for the rare oportunity to see a moon rainbow stretching across the falls (a moonbow) with the full moon lighting up the night sky. Another falls rainstorm felt invigorating as the temperature was just right to get wet.  It was proving to be a great night until we got a ride back to our hostel by a group of tourists driving a fancy SUV. When I got back to my room I was covered in blue dye. It turns out the skirt and purse I bought in Zanzibar (which I hadn't washed yet) which was now wet from the spray of the falls, must have dyed the car seat and anything my purse and skirt touched along the way blue.  Sweet!  Sorry about that....   We left the next day for our ferry ride across the Zambezi to a place that Levi has always wanted to go, Botswana.
