We had a pretty rough trip to Ayacucho. We went on a 10hr bus ride that travelled through dry cactus terrain to snowy peaks of up to 4700 meters. We got pretty bad altitude sickness-pounding headaches, nausea, shortness of breath but we made it in one piece.
Ayacucho is this beautiful colonial town in which we stayed for a few nights, rarely a tourist in site. Many of the women wore traditional clothes consisting of bowler hats, cotton skirts and babies latched onto their backs with a colorful cloth. The markets were amazing and we had delicious fresh squeezed orange juice for 30 cents from a street vendor every day. Awesome!
