Jungle Tour Oct 3 - 4 , 2007

After our Pampa tour, we did a two day jungle tour in Madidi National Park, north of Rurrenbaque on the Beni River. Our guide took us on a few day and  night walks  into the ¨selva¨.  Since the area has only been designated a park  for 10 years, wildlife are quite frightened of humans and as a result we didn´t see much; huge ants, butterflies, snake, pigs and monkeys. Probably the coolest animal we saw was on our way to our camp in our boat, we came across a medium sized rare wild cat called an Ocelot swimming across the river.

During our jungle walks some of the plants were quite interesting such as bark that tastes like garlic,  a plant that stores fresh water (which we drank from), plants with sharp spikes on them, massive palms and several hundred year old trees.  After our walk, we swam in the river to clean off and made our way back to Rurrenabaque.  After the Pampas animals it was tough to compare.
