While in Ayacucho, we went on a day guided tour of some of the surrounding area. We visited some ruins (from the Wari empire in Peru - 200 to 600 AD) and then the village of Quinoa. We lucked out and happen to come across a fiesta that had already been going on for a day. The people were crazy nice, probably since most of them were a tad tipsy, and of course we couldn“t turn down the local brew of chicha (dirty tasting, fermenting apple cider). After a few drinks, the 15 piece band kicked in and we were pulled onto the dance floor (side of road). Definitely one of our highlights so far!
Before heading back to Ayacucho we finished our tour off with some guinea pig and pork chunks..yummy..
